Monte Vista to Pocatello Creek Road Pathway

Construction is scheduled to begin mid-May on the Monte Vista to Pocatello Creek Road Pathway Project, a new pedestrian pathway located on the east side of I-15 in Pocatello.

This project will establish a safe, accessible pedestrian corridor connecting Monte Vista Drive to Pocatello Creek Road, improving mobility between nearby residential neighborhoods and commercial areas.

The scope of work includes:

  • Excavation and backfilling
  • Asphalt and concrete paving
  • Installation of retaining walls
  • Storm drainage improvements
  • Installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon on the south side of Monte Vista Drive to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety

The pathway is designed to be separated from vehicle traffic, enhancing safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists, and linking to the city’s existing trail network.

Funding for the project is made possible through a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant, administered by the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council. The TAP grant requires a local match of 7.34%, which will be fully covered by local non-profit partners, including the Portneuf Health Trust and the Portneuf Greenway Foundation, resulting in no financial impact to the City.

The Transportation Alternatives Program is a federal initiative that supports projects focused on active transportation infrastructure such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, safe routes to school, and other community enhancements, guided by the Federal Highway Administration.

The project is expected to be completed by fall of 2025, with minimal disruptions anticipated during construction. The timeline may be adjusted in the event of unforeseen delays.
