This project will replace the existing one-million gallon bolted steel potable water storage tank located on the east bench. The steel tank was installed in the early 1990s and has significant continuous leaks and structural deterioration. The replacement tank will be a 1.5 million gallon prestressed concrete tank that will be partially buried in the hillside. The site is located on BLM property approximately 1,000 feet above the Portneuf Valley floor and provides water storage for a significant portion of the east bench area of Pocatello. The project will also add a drain pipeline to the bottom of the adjacent ravine to reduce erosion potential in the event of water discharge from the tank site. The bolted steel tank will be demolished and removed as part of the project.

The project was awarded to MD Nursery and Landscaping with construction starting in July 2025. The anticipated completion is summer 2026.
