Monte Vista to Pocatello Creek Pathway Completed

Construction on the Monte Vista to Pocatello Creek Road multi-use pathway is now complete. Portions of the pathway were temporarily closed December 9 while crews finished the final phase of work, including erosion and sediment control improvements to address water runoff from I-15.

The completed project includes excavation and backfill, asphalt and concrete paving, installation of retaining walls, storm drainage systems, and a new rectangular rapid flashing beacon with ADA-accessible ramps on the south side of Monte Vista Drive to improve safety and connectivity.

The pathway operates independently of vehicle traffic, enhancing safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. It also connects to Pocatello’s existing pathway network, improving mobility between nearby residential neighborhoods and surrounding commercial areas.

Funding for the project was provided through a Transportation Alternatives Program Grant administered by the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council. The required 7.34 percent local match was fully funded by community nonprofit partners, including the Portneuf Health Trust and the Portneuf Greenway Foundation, resulting in no financial burden to the City of Pocatello for construction.
