Lewis Bridge Rehabilitation Project

The City of Pocatello has received federal aid funds to rehabilitate the Lewis St Bridge. A total of $1.17M was secured through the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC), the agency who administers the state bridge program. The City is responsible for the 7.34% local match.

This structure has a sufficiency rating of 49.4, whereas the average rating of all bridges in Pocatello (minus the old Cheyenne Bridge) is 75.6. The concrete abutments, joints, steel beams, concrete deck, and curbs are in fair to poor condition. This structure crosses the Portneuf River and is a main connector between the west bench and the east side of Pocatello.

The City’s consulting engineer, Keller Associates of Pocatello, has begun preliminary engineering work. The concept report should be approved this spring, and the final plans ready for public bid in the spring of 2014, tentatively. Reconstruction of this bridge is currently scheduled for FY2016, when the funding becomes available.
